Girl succumbs to stab injuries in SSG

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 18: Sharda Phulji Bhikhabhai Rathwa, a ninth standard student of the Adarsh Nivasi Chhatralaya at Chhotaudepur, who was stabbed by a male student of the same school on Saturday morning, succumbed to her injuries in the SSG Hospital on Sunday evening.

The girl's relatives have meanwhile assaulted the boy's parents' house and relatives in Dungar village in Kanwat taluka and damaged household articles worth over Rs 25,000. According to a complaint by the boy's mother Revaben Chhidia Malu Wanakar, 10 people attacked and ransacked her and her brother's house on Sunday. Both the boy and the girl belong to the same village.

A spokesman of the Chhotaudepur police told The Indian Express that the accused, Shankar Laloo Wanakar, surrendered to the police on Sunday evening after the girl expired. A case under Section 302 IPC has been registered against him. According to the police, Wanakar, a tenth standard student, stabbed the girl several times after school prayers because the girl had repeatedly turned down his overtures for friendship. He resorted to violence when the girl allegedly scolded him in response to a love letter he wrote her recently.

The police said that this was the first incident of its type in any school in Chhotaudepur.
