ONGC honours projects with best safety records

VADODARA, July 18: The Safety and Environment Division, ONGC, Vadodara organised the 22nd Safety Week valedictory function at ONGC Officers' Club on July 16. While J N Johari, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, Northern Region, was the chief guest at the function, Mohan Singh, Director of Mines Safety, Ajmer, was the guest of honour and N Lal, Executive Director, ONGC, WRBC presided over the function.

Prizes for various projects, installations and rigs -- who had the best safety record during last year -- were distributed during the function. Mehsana project won the Safety Championship Trophy for the best overall performance. The prize for the best drilling rig went to Cardwel-VI Mehsana, best CTF award went to Mehsana CTF, Mehsana, while GCS-Olpad, Ankleshwar bagged the best production installation award. The best work over rig went CW-50-11 Mehsana.

ONGC colony in Ahmedabad was adjudged the best residential colony in western region while the project with lowest frequency of accident rate went to Ahmedabad project. The best health centre prize went to Vadodara.

Prizes for the best entries for Safety and Environment posters, slogans in Hindi, Gujarati and English and cartoons were also distributed at the end of the function.

Johari in his keynote address said that it was lack of safety awareness and complacency towards safety norms that lead to mishaps resulting in loss of machinery and human lives. Therefore there should be more HRD activities, training, innovative statutory policies which made safety practices a compulsory requirement.

Lal while addressing the gathering said that ONGC had a set policy for environment protection and safety to be treated at par with the operation. He said that in the present context it was important to design a uniform code of safety to improve productivity and growth of the industry. He further stressed that regulatory agencies and the management should make every player accountable for safety and efficiency.
