Youth hangs himself
One Navin Karsan Rathod (25), a youth residing at New Girnar Society, Una Pani Road, committed suicide on Sunday afternoon by hanging himself to the ceiling of his house, the Kapodara police said. The deceased's father, Karsan Deva, told the police that Navin committed suicide at around 3.30 pm on Sunday and died before he could be rushed to a hospital. The reason behind the extreme step has still not been ascertained. A case under section 174 of the CrPC has been registered and PSI K B Ninama is investigating further.

Five arrested
The city Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) on Sunday arrested five people, including two women on charges of bootlegging countrymade liquor. Naresh Laxman Sarang, Pravin Kanji Kharwa, Arjun Baburao, Padma Jaswant Kanji and Chanchal Bhikhu Rathod -- all residents of Kharwawaad area of Nanpura -- were arrested with 10 `potlis' of liquor worth Rs 3200, while they were bringing it from the outskirts to Kharwawaad.

Diamond theft
The manager of a diamond workshop in Mahidharpura area lodged a police complaint on Saturday evening, naming the watchman and two others as accused in a theft of diamonds and cash worth Rs 1.52 lakh. Hitesh Vitthal Waghasia, of Winstar Diamonds located at Ananad Apartments, Manchharpura, alleged that the workshop watchman Raju Patel and two of his accomplices namely Chintamani Mistry and Anil alias Kaliya broke the grills of the workshop during the early hours of Saturday, committed the theft and were absconding since. Waghasia stated that they stole polished diamonds worth Rs 1.22 lakhs, rough gems worth another Rs 18,000 and Rs 12,000 in cash from a drawer in the office. No arrests were made until Sunday evening.
