City builder arrested
City-based builder N D Patel, who allegedly forced businessman Bharat Shah to commit suicide over a tussle for the latter's Karelibaug flat in early June, was arrested under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act on Monday, Police Commissioner J Mahapatra. He has been sent to Bhuj district jail.

Arts ruckus
Student union leaders went on a rampage at the M S University's Faculty of Arts on Monday, destroying furniture at the faculty main building. The leaders have demanded that those students who were unable to submit their forms should be given a chance. Faculty dean Maya Shah has dismissed the student leaders' demand.

Phone nos change
Three telephone numbers of the City Police Control Room -- 431500, 432300 and 425555 -- have been changed with immediate effect. The new numbers are 414300, 433000 and 415111.

No traffic
No traffic will be allowed around the NCC Firing Range between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, when members of the Baroda Rifle Club will be practising firing, according to a notification issued by Commissioner of Police J Mahapatra.

IIES course
The last date for submitting forms for the 28th PGDM course of the Indian Institute of Export Society is July 31. Anyone interested in the course should contact the IIES on 362570.

Power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board detected theft of power worth Rs 4.95 crores during the fortnight ending July 11. According to an official spokesman, of the 56,170 connections checked in different parts of the State, 4,033 were found to be irregular. The defaulters have been served notices.

Talk on safety
The Vadodara chapter of the Society of Power Engineers (India) will organise a group discussion on `Electrical Accidents, Causes, Prevention and Safety' on July 21 at the Vasvik Auditorium. Member (Technical) of Gujarat Electricity Board P C Patel will preside over the function and Gujarat Safety Council general secretary P T Shah will be the chief guest.

Bank's gesture
The UCO Bank Unions have unanimously decided to contribute one day's salary to the National Defence Fund, an official release said here on Monday.

Hospital services
Chandan Charitable Hospital, located at A-10 Shrenik Park Society, Akota, is offering treatment of various eye diseases for economically backward and middle-class families by Dr K J Sheth, former dean of the Baroda Medical College.

BoB jubilee
The Bank of Baroda will celebrate its 92nd foundation day on Tuesday. General Manager (Central Gujarat) B L Naik will garland the statue of Sayjirao Gaekwad on the occasion.
