Calcutta metro services hit

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CALCUTTA, JULY 20: Metro services between Dum Dum and Tollygunj remained stalled for nearly 80 minutes hours following passenger agitation at the Chandni Chowk station today.

Metro railway sources said the trouble began when two persons were caught for pushing through the automatic turnstile during a ticket checking drive. They had valid tickets, the other passengers claimed.

This triggered off an agitation by the passengers who mostly belonged to a local office, resulting in the stalling of metro services from 1130 hours.

Normal services, however, resumed at 1250 hours following talks among station authorities, RPF officers and passengers' representatives, the sources said.
