Girl commits suicide

MUMBAI, JULY 20: A teenage girl from Thane district's Ambarnath committed suicide after her parents did not allow her to get drenched in the rain on Tuesday. Laxmi Sangappa Chalwadi (14) a resident of Bhaskarnagar locality was enjoying the rains and getting soaked on Monday. Her father who arrived at the scene stopped her from getting wet and asked her to remain indoors. Later, when her parents were asleep Laxmi poured kerosene on her person and set herself ablaze. After sustaining over 90 per cent burn wounds she was admitted to the Central Hospital at Ulhasnagar where she succumbed to her burn wounds, shortly after admission, the police said.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
