No admission work at MSU Arts faculty

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 20: Admission-related work at M S University's Arts Faculty could not be held on Tuesday as the office staff neither distributed or accepted forms. Students had gone on the rampage on Monday forcing Faculty dean Mayaben Shah to declare that the staff could work only under police protection.

Shah, also wrote a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the MSU Anil Kane seeking police protection. If there was no security cover her staff could not take the risk of attending office even on Wednesday, she said. Shah, however, maintained her stand saying that no more students could not be accommodated.

Meanwhile, Kane said that the faculty had already lodged a police complaint against the four students who had gone on the rampage on Monday. He added that the authorities had also seeked police protection to ensure peaceful administration on Wednesday. He added that the police were also informed about the miscreants and asked to take stern action against them. And after the Kane's assurance, Shah said that the faculty office would remain open from Wednesday and classes would also be back to normal.

Though Monday's violence affected students' attendance as well as distribution of admission forms, TY BA and post-graduate classes were held in the faculty's main building. Student union leaders however took the credit of the poor attendance saying it was their fear that kept the staff away from work.

``But classes could not be conducted because there were no non-teaching staff members,'' pointed out student leader Janak Macwana. He, however, added that the students would keep their word and launch an indefinite strike if all students who had applied were not accommodated.
