Ten year old drowned in Ghaggar

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PANCHKULA, JULY 20: A 10-year-old boy, Jaswant, was swept away in the Ghaggar river today afternoon when he along with his cousin was fishing in the river. Fifteen-year-old Lalla Ram was, however, saved because of timely help from the people who had gathered on the scene.

The incident took place at around 1:30 in the afternoon when Jaswant and Lalla were fishing in the river under the bridge. A forceful wave swept the two into the water, but they managed to catch on to a huge stone. Hearing their screams, passersby stopped for help and arranged a rope but it fell short.

By this time, Superintendent of Police Alok Mittal and City Magistrate M.S. Yadav reached the place. A rope was taken out from the car of the SP, but only Lalla could be rescued.

A search operation was launched for the victim but the body could not be recovered till last reports came in. According to SP Alok Mittal, an alert has been sounded in Patiala, Kaithal and Sirsa for the body of Jaswant.

Meanwhile, a cyclist was killed near Bhuri village in Morni when he was hit by a speeding private bus. The Chandimandir police station has taken the bus into custody and booked the bus driver for rash and negligent driving under Section 279, 304-A of the IPC.
