According to Karjan police, registration number of the jeep was not readablebecause it was disfigured. The registration number of the jeep used in thecrime had been mentioned as GJ-2-683 in the FIR filed by Patel. He was onhis way to the Dabhoi bus stand with cash and some mail when hisautorickshaw was intercepted by four armed youths near Jethwai ShoppingCentre. Patel was going to the bus stand to leave for Vadodara.

The youths assaulted him with swords and knives and drove away with his bagafter injuring his both hands.

According to police, Patel had been attacked and robbed of gold ornamentsworth Rs. three lakhs by a Maruti-borne armed youths near Kelanpur villagesix months ago by intercepting the ST bus in which he was travelling.
