JAIPUR, JULY 20: Rajasthan Congress today demanded the resignation of Defence Minister George Fernandes for his ``irresponsible and pro-Pakistan'' statements on Kargil issue and said it will submit a memorandum to the President to ask Fernandes to resign.Congress would hold a rally here tomorrow to press for Fernandes' resignation and it would submit a memorandum to the State Governor for onward transmission to the President, party's State unit president Girija Vyas told reporters here.
On different occasions during the Kargil conflict, the Defence Minister did not refrain from his ``verbose speeches'' and gave clean chits to Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), she alleged.
Vyas said Fernandes had ``no moral ground'' to stay on and must resign.
The contradictory statements of the Defence Minister and BJP leaders on Kargil conflict had shown that Prime Minister A B Vajpayee had ``no control over them'', she said.
Instead of facing ``genuine questions''from the public, the BJP was politicising the issue and skipping a special session of Rajya Sabha on it, she charged.
