VADODARA, July 21: Students and teachers of the Tejas Vidyalaya have resigned themselves to living with the stench of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation's (VMC) garbage bin located near the school entrance. The VMC has been turning a deaf area and the area's residents make no effort to keep it clean, say school authorities. Animals add to the squalor by littering garbage all over the place.
Says school principal Revathi Shanker, ``I have stopped complaining about it now.'' Earlier, the school officials and two members of the Parents Association had reportedly met the ward officers and complained about the problems being faced by students and teachers due to the bin.
``The officers asked us to suggest some alternative place in the area where the bin could be shifted,'' said Shanker. But after the parents went on a round and suggested two alternative sites, the ward officers rejected the proposal saying it would not be convenient for them to shift the bin to the suggested areas, claimed Shanker.
With the onset of the monsoon, the scene has worsened, she said. ``We on our part are making no efforts now and have given up the idea that some action would be taken in the near future,'' she added.
Denying knowledge of the matter, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Manmohan Sutharia promised to look into it very soon.
