Indo-Pak sporting links to resume?

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka National Championships to be held here from July 30-August 1. This could be the first sporting contact between India and Pakistan since the Kargil conflict. The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka has invited India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for their Nationals.

India has already responded by informing that a six-member team will be sent but Pakistan and Bangladesh have not yet replied.

The Sahara Cup cricket series between the two countries was called of following the Kargil conflict.

BoB aid for Humpy

VIJAYAWADA: Bank of Baroda (BOB) has sanctioned additional sponsorship money of Rs 3.5 lakhs to under-12 world chess champion Koneru Humpy, who is to play the British International Chess Championship from August 1-14. BoB, which had given Rs two lakhs as sponsorship money and a note book computer, had increased the amount to enable her to take part in more international tournaments.

Athletes for Lanka

COLOMBO: Indiais sending a six-member athletic team for the 1999 Sri Lanka National Championships to be held here from July 30 to August 1. The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka has invited athletes from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for the nationals.
