MUMBAI, JULY 23: The north-west zone police solved three murders, including the killing of two elderly citizens and a teenager, in the last fortnight.In the first case, a 35-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested in connection with the murder of Abdul Sattar Mansoor Baig (61). Baig was found strangled to death at his J B Nagar residence, Andheri on June 25.
Investigations revealed that while the elderly man's wife had left for Pakistan and his daughter stayed with her uncle at Mahim, he was visited by a lady acquaintance Sarah Thomas alias Sharon regularly.
Sarah and her accomplice Istiyaq Ahmed alias Guddu (33) strangled the old man in anticipation of a booty. However, after the murder they could lay their hand on only Rs 5500 and two wristwatches before escaping the next day to Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh by Ferozepur Express.
After the police caught up with them and arrested the duo. During questioning they confessed to the murder.
In the second case, one Hamid Umar Mohammed Shaikh wasarrested in Ahmedabad in the murder 15-year-old Jignesh Satish Patel. Shaikh is the brother of Patel's employer and the murder was committed for a mere Rs 1085.
The highly decomposed body of Patel was found in a gunny bag along the railway track at Malad on July 12. The needle of suspicion pointed to Shaikh, who was known for his late night visits to bars and brothels.
The Dindoshi police, under whose jurisdiction the murder took place, traced Shaikh to Ahmedabad where he was arrested on Tuesday.
Confessing to the murder, Shaikh informed the police that he killed Patel because the latter had refused to part with Rs 1085 adding that the body was dumped in a toilet in the plastic factory where he worked before it was abandoned on the railway track.
Finally, Ceasar Vaz (68), who was spending a retired life at his Sagar Darshan Society residence in Jan Kalyan Nagar, Malvani on July 19. He was strangled to death with a scarf and 33 gms of gold and Rs 26,400 in cash was reported missing from hiscupboard.
Rashid (22), a relative of Vaz, and his accomplices Mohammed Sarfaraz (19) and Mohammed Idris (19) were arrested on charges of killing Vaz. The police have recovered 251 grams of stolen gold from the three men.
