MUMBAI, July 23: St Mary's High School at Mazagaon honoured its golden jubilee SSC alumni at its Annual Awards Day on July 10, 1999. The SSC exam was first conducted in 1949, putting an end to the matriculation exam conducted by the Bombay University. Columbia University's professor of economics Jagdish Bhagwati, who was shortlisted with Amartya Sen for the Nobel Prize in Economics who stood first in the examination, was felicitated at the function.
Also felicitated were India's pioneering laparoscopic surgeon Dr Tehimton Udwadia, who had stood first in English, the youngest of the batch Dr Anthony Sequeira, Bombay First chairman Gerson D'Cunha, his brother ad-man and playwright Sylvester and Mid-day owner, Khalid Ansari.
