PUNE, JULY 23: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner B I Nagrale on Friday announced the formation of a separate cell for implementation of the master plan for urban forestry in Pimpri-Chinchwad and said that people's participation was essential to make the plan a success.Speaking at a meeting to discuss the master plan for urban forestry, Nagrale said that the urban forestry programme should be a people's movement. The PCMC has planted nearly 27 lakh trees since 1982 but only 18 lakh trees have survived. The survival rate is not satisfactory, he said.
The master-plan is to be implemented over a period of next ten years. The areas where tree plantations can be carried out on a massive scale have been identified in the plan. Nagrale said that 186 varieties of trees are to be planted in the twin township.
