Khanwilkar seeks aid for rain-affected

KOLHAPUR, July 23: Digvijay Khanwilkar, MLA, has submitted a memorandum to the State Chief Secretary, seeking declaration of wet famine in some parts of Kolhapur district and sanctioning immediate aid to the people affected by the excess rains.

In his memorandum, Khanwilkar has sought providing medical aid and other essential commodities to the people living in villages located on the banks rivers in the district who are adversely affected by the incessant rains.Copies of the memorandum have been submitted to district collector Arvind Sinha.

The memorandum has said that many villages located on the banks of rivers have been flooded with river waters which has destroyed crops. In some villages, houses are also submerged and cattle carried away in flood waters. Khanwilkar has said that the incessant rains has brought the life in these areas completely to a standstill.

The memorandum has said that with the flood waters entering several houses, the residents are likely to be affected by different diseases and therefore, immediate medical service should be provided to them. If needed, people from the areas facing the risk of flood should be evacuated to safer areas.
