Underground drainage scheme for east Khadki okayed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, JULY 23: After a three year long wait, the Southern Command headquarters has approved the proposal forwarded by the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) for the underground drainage scheme in East Khadki.

The proposal had been sent by the General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command in October last year, with the remarks that technical expertise with the Khadki Cantonment Board required to be supplemented with more expert views to avoid any wrong estimates or designs. The cantonment board therefore had resolved to get the designs and estimates vetted by the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran by paying the requisite charges.

The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) recently forwarded a proposal to the Southern Command Hospital for setting up an underground drainage scheme covering the entire civil area. The scheme at Khadki however, may be delayed by another three months with the enforcement of the election code of conduct.

The ambitious scheme for East Khadki will cover Sapras, Line Bazaar and the remaining portion of East Khadki. Until the sewage was directly let into the river without being treated. Pipelines from the Bombay Engineer Group (BEG) will also be connected to the underground drainage scheme.

The Rs 83 lakh scheme includes Rs 10 lakh for the compound wall, Rs 50 lakh for the pipeline and Rs 25 lakh for the equipment plant. A 2 MLD plant will come up in the vicinity to treatment of the sewage. The bungalow area in Khadki are connected to septic tanks while the rest of Khadki has an 8 MLD plant to take care of its sewage.
