Kargil is PM's hour of glory -- Advani

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, July 24: Atal Behari Vajpayee has proved to be a Prime Minister without peer and the Kargil victory has crowned his achievements, BJP leader and Union Home Minister L K Advani said in Chennai today.

The Congress would commit harakiri; political suicide; if it made an issue of the Kargil conflict, Advani said, addressing office-bearers of the party at the BJP headquarters. The people are keen to bring back Vajpayee as Prime Minister and with a thumping majority, he said adding that the Government was short-circuited despite splendid performance on the administrative and economic fields by the AIADMK, aided by the Congress. Pakistan was forced to resort to the Kargil intrusion as its proxy war had failed. However, the Vajpayee Government achieved the Kargil victory not only due to its jawans but also due to its resolve to adhere to the line-of-control which earned international support. Another factor was the excellent diplomatic initiative of External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, he said. Theworld had now realised that Pakistan's was a rogue army and there were several centres which seemed to work on their own unlike India which behaved like a responsible country despite being a nuclear power.
