NEW DELHI, July 24: Fourteen more deaths were reported on Saturday in rain-related incidents throughout the country, nine of them in a landslide in Assam following heavy rains which worsened the flood situation in the State and neighbouring Bihar taking the monsoon toll to 272.Nine people were killed, 39 injured, six of them critically, and one was reported missing in landslides in Kalapar hills of Assam lashed by heavy rains since Friday night.
Heavy downpour made the flood situation worse in the State making the swelling Brahmaputra and its tributaries rise alarmingly to inundate fresh areas.
The situation in worst affected Dhemaji district worsened with rivers Gai and Jiadhol innudating more areas.
In Bihar the flood situation remained grim with rain-fed Burhi Gandak, Kamla Balan and Adhwara rivers still in spate.
Burhi Gandak inundated fresh areas in east Champaran while rivers Punpun and Ganga were rising threatening to engulf low-lying areas of Patna. Rising level of Ganga was threatening theBarari Baishakha bund near Karhagola.
