CHANDIGARH, JULY 24: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Om Prakash Chautala was today sworn in as Haryana Chief Minister ending a spell of political uncertainty caused by resignation of the minority Bansi Lal government.Chautala, who emerged as a consensus choice for the chief ministership of all non-Congress opposition parties and six independents, later told mediapersons that he would seek a trust vote in the Assembly on Tuesday and then constitute his council of ministers.
Becoming Chief Minister for the fourth time Chautala expressed his gratitude to the 15-member breakaway HVP (D), 10-member BJP and six Independents for supporting his 22-member party.
He was administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Mahabir Prasad at a ceremony attended among others by his father and former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, Union ministers George Fernandes and Pramod Mahajan and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal.
Chautala said consultations would be held with the BJP high command on theirparty joining the ministry. Mahajan later told mediapersons that the Prime Minister had told Chautala the issue would be discussed in Delhi after he was sworn in.
Bansi Lal resigned minutes before he was to seek a trust vote on Wednesday following the withdrawal of support by the Congress, which had extended support to his government last month after the BJP pulled out of the ruling coalition.
The new Chief Minister said he was in no hurry to bring about an administrative reshuffle, and that he was ``not going to be vindictive.''Referring to his earlier allegations against Bansi Lal, Chautala said the role of the former chief minister, his family and supporters in alleged liquor smuggling during prohibition would be investigated.
