JOHANNESBURG, JULY 24: South Africa's Cricket Board formally adopted a more racially representative constitution at its annual meeting today but the move made little difference to elections for key positions. As part of the board's new constitution, which aims to bring more black influence into its upper structures, three blacks were elected to sit on the general council along with 12 provincial representatives.
In the most keenly awaited contest, Raymond White retained his position as president despite a challenge from Percy Sonn of Western Province. It was the first time that the presidency of the UCBSA had been challenged.
Media reports had suggested Sonn, a coloured administrator, was attempting to politicise the body and sweeping changes would be made if he was elected. In his address, White reiterated the UCB's committment to transforming the sport into a game played by all.
