Pre-poll shock for Sena -- Thackeray can't vote
Acting on the advice of the Election Commission, the President of India has issued a notification debarring Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray from contesting elections and disenfranchising him till December 10, 2001.

IMF rejects $280 mn loan to Pak
Pakistan was given a thumbs down on its request to the IMF to release a $280 million tranche, which the Fund had stopped as it was not satisfied with the Pakistan Government's efforts at disciplining its economy.
