Two drown at Aksa

Two persons are presumed to have drowned after they went swimming off Aksa beach at Malad this morning.

The youths -- Anil Virkar (23) and Ramesh Tawde (18) -- residents of Malad, had gone fishing and then for a swim and were possibly washed away by the tide between 8 am and 10 am, Malvani police say. Their friends, who had accompanied them, approached the police when Virkar and Tawde failed to return.

Police and fire brigade personnel were unable to recover the bodies till late evening.

20-year-old beaten to death

A 20-year-old man was beaten to death when he was caught robbing a studio in Dadar on Saturday night.

The murder was discovered when Natwar Solanki's (25) body was found outside Ranjit Studio at Dadar (E) on Sunday morning.

Investigations reveal that the victim died due stomach and chest injuries, sustained while he was being beaten.

Police have arrested Suresh Achraya for murdering Solanki, a former BMC employee.

Body found in traintoilet

A murkier scene awaited the cleaners of the 1017-Up Gorakhpur-Kurla Express this morning. While the train was being washed in the yard at Kurla Terminus, the body of a 66-year-old man turned up in the toilet of bogie S-5 (coach no 51331).

Railway police say the train had arrived from Gorakhpur at 6 am. They add that the man was 5ft 11 inches tall and had sustained 17 stab-wounds on his head and face. Police suspect that the murder took place in the morning. The motive is yet to be ascertained.

This is the second case this year where a body has been dumped on a train; a 77-year-old man's body had been found on a Varanasi-bound train in February. Khar police had arrested three men in connection with that murder.
