Course on film appreciationJindal Arts Creative Interaction Centre (JACIC) will hold a film appreciation course in collaboration with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) at the National Centre for Performing Arts from August 11 to 14 between 9.30 am and 8 pm. The course fee is Rs 800 per head and spot registration fee is Rs 1,000 per head. Professor Suresh Chabbria will discuss ways of looking at cinema, image and meaning; the structure and sequencing of representative text films; historical subjects; non-fiction, animation, experimental and short films; and cinema's position in contemporary social consciousness. Each day's programme will conclude with a film screening, followed by a discussion. Completed forms plus the fee must be turned in by August 8. Asiatic Library workers' union
Workers of the Asiatic Library, Fort, recently set up a union, The Asiatic Society of Bombay Employees Association. The union, led by Dr B R Rairikar, has been formed to demand an early implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations for the library's workers and improve working conditions at the library, a press release said.
