Couple run over in dist
A couple from the Changa village in Petlad taluka of Anand district was killed in a road mishap near Jarod village in Vadodara district on the Vadodara-Haalol Road on Sunday. According to the police, Ashwain Goswami (45) and his wife Asha 40) were going on their Hero Honda motorcycle (GJ 7 L 9612) to Halol to attend a condolence meeting in memory of one of their relatives when their vehicle was hit by a ST bus bearing registration number GJ 18 V 2657 going from Jhalod to Valsad. While Goswami died on the spot, the women succumbed to her injuries in the SSG Hospital. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered in the Jarod Police Station against the bus driver.

Cop assaulted
A police constable, Parshottam Keshav Rohit, posted at the Vernama Police Station in Vadodara district, sustained serious head injuries in an assault by an unknown person opposite the Vernama Police Lines on Sunday morning. According to the Vernama police, the constable had a verbal dispute with an unidentified man who then hit the cop with an axe on his head. He was admitted to SSG Hospital in an unconscious state. His condition is serious, the police said, quoting doctors.

House robbed
Cash and valuables worth Rs 57,000 were stolen from house no. 12 in Diwaliba Nagar in Manjelpur last night. According to the police, burglars entered the house by removing the window grills. They broke open the steel cupboard and stole the goods. The Makarpura police have registered a case and started investigations.
