Schools for girls not to get 100 pc grant

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Aug 1: Schools for girls in the State will no longer get a 100 per cent grant. According to a circular recently issued by the State Government, girls schools will get grants under the same rules as other schools instead of the earlier 100 per cent grant.

However, the State Government has continued its policy of 100 per cent fee relief for girls in schools. But the 100 per cent fee relief has been made conditional. Now, girl students will have to have at least 75 per cent attendance during the academic term for fee relief. In addition, they will have to have at least 50 per cent marks in the previous standard. If a girl has more than 75 per cent attendance during the academic year and less than 50 per cent marks in the previous standard, then the fee relief will be only 50 per cent.

Through the circular, the Government also amended the rules for grants to higher secondary schools of Science faculty for their laboratories. According to amendments, the schools will get 50 per cent of the expenditure made by the trustees of the school for the laboratory or Rs 1.5 lakh, whichever is less. Sources in the education department said the changes were based on the recommendations of a committee.
