Privatisation of YCMH ambulance services on cards

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Aug 1: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is contemplating to partly privatise the ambulance services provided at the Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. Details of the plan will be worked out in the next few days and the proposal will be forwarded for approval at the standing committee meeting.

Several other decisions regarding upgradation of medical facilities at the YCMH have also been taken. The PCMC will be setting aside a fund of Rs 25 crore for fixed deposit and carry out important upgradation works from the interest amount.

The PCMC will reportedly invite proposals from private organisations for starting a blood bank, as there is no blood bank at the YCMH ever since it was started in 1991. Also on cards is reviving the proposal of the Ruby Hall Clinic for starting an Intensive Care Unit. The terms and conditions of the proposal are to be decided.

Meanwhile, even as a meeting was discussing the proposals for upgradation of facilities at YCMH on Thursday, a labourer working at the hospital drove away a hearse and later dashed a scooterist at Bhosari. Although the hearse has been traced, the labourer is absconding. The medical authorities have lodged a complaint against the labourer.
