BJP may declare Maharashtra list today

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Aug 2: The first list of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections next month will be declared tomorrow.

The party's State Election Committee, which was in a meeting to recommend names for nearly 75 Assembly and 22 Lok Sabha seats till the time of going to press, will be sending the names to New Delhi later today.

The Central Election Committee, which is meeting in the Capital from today, will consider the names from Maharashtra tomorrow. The first list of names will known by tomorrow evening.

The BJP is contesting 26 LS seats and 117 Assembly seats in the State.

In the City, the only LS seat on which there is some suspense is the North-East LS seat, where the two probables are city party president Kirit Somaiya and State Excise Minister Prakash Mehta. Considered a tough seat to win (the party's all-India secretary Pramod Mahajan lost it last year), the constituency has for long been crying for attention.
