SRINAGAR, AUG 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Government, on the directive of the Election Commission today shifted deputy commisioners of Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar.However, the two senior police oficers, deputy inspector general (DIG of twin border districts of Baramulla and Kupwara and senior superintendent of police, Kupwara, whose shifting the commission had sought, have not been changed yet.
An official spokesman said K I Khan, a Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officer holding the post of additional deputy commissioner, Srinagar, has been posted as deputy commissioner (returning officer), Srinagar, replacing Tanveer Jehan. Jehan has been asked to report to the general department for further posting.
The election commissioner has directed the state government to shift Tanveer Jehan as returning officer of Srinagar parliamentary seat since she was a local officer and her name appears in the voter list of the constitutency. As per the Election Commission guidelines, a local government officialcannot act as the returning officer of the same constitutency where his or her name appears as voter.
During the 1997 parliamentary elections, Jehan was asked to proceed on leave till the completion of electoral process in Srinagar constituency.
The spokesman said M I Kirmani, deputy commissioner Anantnag, a non-KAS officer, and Mohammad Aslam Qureshi, director estates, will exchange posts with immediate effect.
