Monsoon normal

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, AUG 6: Most parts of India received excess to normal monsoon rains during the last two months, and the country will continue to receive normal rains in the coming two months, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced.

In a mid-season assessment of this year's south-west monsoon, IMD said that during June and July India received 49 per cent - nearly half - of the season's normal rainfall.

The rainfall from June one to July 31 was "excess to normal" in 28 out of 35 meteorological sub-divisions of the country, covering 73 per cent area, IMD said in a statement today. About 65 per cent of the districts have received normal rainfall. Rainfall was deficient only in seven meteorological sub-divisions west Rajasthan; Saurashtra and Kutch; east MP; Orissa; TN and Pondicherry; Rayalseema (in AP); and Andaman and Nicobar islands. In four of them west Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Rayalseema the deficiency was only marginal.
