The Dr M G Takawale committee report, which was accepted by the university's Academic Council on July 21, had recommended that the number of seats for BCS be increased from 60 to 80 per division, and from 20 to 30 for MCS. It had also recommended an NRI quota of 15 per cent and an increase in the course fees.

The petition states that the reduction of NRI quota to 5 per cent is illegal and that the present fee schedules are unjustifiable, because they will yield the college only Rs 10 lakh a year, far short of the Rs 25 lakh needed by private unaided colleges. The PES offers computer science courses recognised and affiliated to the university at Ganeshkhind and Shivajinagar, both recognised and affiliated to the University of Pune.
