GMSSS-16 owe it to Gayatri

CHANDIGARH, Aug 6: Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16 began their campaign with a bang by routing Dev Samaj Junior Model School, Sector 21 by a big margin of 25-7 after leading 10-4 at half time in the Shriman Ishwar Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament at the IS Dev Samaj School in Sector 21-C here today.

Government Model-16 virtually owed their easy triumph to Gayatri who topscored with 13 points. Navjot contributed four points to the winners. Niti was the star performer for Dev Samaj Junior Model School as she scored five points.

Playing with better coordination, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 18 outplayed Carmel Convent, Sector 9 by 32-6. The winners were leading 10-4 at half time. Sarita (14) and Ranjita (10) repeatedly pierced the Carmel Convent defence to score with ease. Anchal contributed four points for the winners. Neha Kohli (4) reduced the margin for Carmel Convent.

Bhawan Vidyalya, Sector 27 beat Shishu Niketan, Sector 22 by 16-10 after leading 10-5 at half time. Rajita displayed brilliant ball control to score 14 points of her team's total of 16. Komal scored two points. Sandhya waged a lone battle for the losers and contributed eight points.

In the fourth match of the day, Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 prevailed over Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 by 25-15. The winners were trailing 10-12 at half time. However on crossing over, GNPS cagers attacked their rivals with renewed vigour to record an authoritative victory. This possible due to fine display by Mandeep Kaur (8) and Pradip (6). Vandana (6), Kavita (5) and Urmilla (4) served Govt Girls School, Sector 8.
