AHMEDABAD, Aug 8: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Employees' Ladat Samiti has threatened to boycott elections if the AMC authorities failed to give the Fifth Pay Commission arrears before August 15.According to a release here on Sunday, convenor Rajendra Shah said that Ladat Samiti which comprises of various samitis held a meeting and decided to boycott elections if the arrears of the Fifth Pay Commission were not paid before August 15. Shah said that in March '99 the AMC was to give the arrears to the employees. But AMC officials, on the pretext of implementing the Ferguson report, denied the employees their arrears then. He said the AMC on one hand was denying arrears to its employees while on the other hand it was renovating the offices.
He said that the employees had to get Rs 73 crore from the authorities as dearness allowance alone.
Liquor seized: The city police have filed 20 cases under the Prohibition Act and has arrested 23 persons with 343 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor. The police also seized 48 bottles of foreign made liquor and an autorickshaw. The police have registered three cases of gambling and has arrested nine persons and recovered Rs 1,994 and gambling instruments from them. Forty-seven others were arrested as a precautionary measures.
