Congress flays AMC property tax formula

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Aug 8: Ahmedabad City Congress has opposed the new formula for estimation of property tax by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. In a release on Sunday, City Congress president Raj Kumar Gupta threatened to launch an agitation if the new formula was not withdrawn soon.

He said that by formulating new formula for the property tax AMC had burdened the citizens of Ahmedabad with heavy tax in this period of recession. He further said the new formula would plunge the economy of Ahmedabad city into peril.

Meanwhile, Consumer Protection and Action Committee (Gujarat State) alleged that the AMC was making haphazard estimation of property tax in the city, due to which the people of Ahmedabad faced serious problems. They also alleged that the tax collection department of AMC was corrupt.

They said that even though last year's objection applications by people regarding estimation of property tax were not disposed off, new bills of property tax have been slapped on tax payers by AMC.
