Real failures are the quitters, says Shiv Khera

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Aug 8:
  • ``IT is the inactivity of good people and not the activity of rascals which destroys a society.''

  • ``So long as citizens of a country prefer convenience to conviction, the country will go downhill.''

  • ``People who are family-oriented are also more efficient at work.''

That's a sampling of Kheraspeak for you. And those were only some of the statements on attitude made by Shiv Khera, internationally-recognised HRD and management expert, on the inaugural day of a three-day motivational workshop `Blueprint for Success' held here on Sunday.

Khera, author of the best-seller `You Can Win' and founder of Qualified Learning Systems, said we do not realise our own potentials which are hidden and need to be developed. ``All success stories are of great failures and the real failures are those who don't try,'' he said, adding that we keep questioning our own ability even though what we need is a strategy to develop it.

He said one has to master seven steps to positive thinking. They are changing focus from negative to positive attitude, stop procrastinating, practising attitude of gratitude, getting on to continuous education programme, building high self-esteem by doing positive things for those who cannot repay us in any way, staying away from negative influences like drugs, alcohol and pornography, and putting the positive attitude back into the system. Khera said as the body needs good food everyday, similarly, the mind needs positive thought every day. ``Winners recognise their limitations but focus on their strengths, whereas losers recognise their strengths but focus on their limitations,'' he said.

He noted, ``A person's character is judged not only by the company he keeps but also by the company he avoids.'' One should not dissipate one's energy by mixing with the wrong people and indulging in wrongdoing, he added. He said winners may analyse and theorise but they never rationalise. They always put in that extra effort, even when it hurts them, he said.
