`Revenue sharing unwarranted'

VIJAYAWADA: All India telecom employees Union (class three) National president M Madhusudana Rao today said the replacement of the licensing fee system by a revenue sharing system under the new telecom policy announced by the Vajpayee government was unwarranted and that the Rs 45,000 crore owed by the cellular operators should not be written off. He termed the policy as a "sell out" to the private sector at the cost of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and demanded a review of the policy, after the new government takes over at the centre, in the interest of the telecom employees. The license fee was decided on the basis of the bids of private operators and to wriggle out of contractual obligation was neither legal nor ethical.
