Gearing up to meet the challenges of the InterNet, Intel India expects to begin full-fledged operations on the Net in India by October this year.G B Kumar, national manager, business programs, Intel India who was in Pune for the business computing roadshows in Pune, mentioned that although they had not set any specific targets for India, they expected to book orders by the end of September from OEMs and distributors.
Intel has two OEM partners and around six distributors in India. Intel had decided to go on the Net in January 1998 with a plan to do E-business by July 1998. Intel has been booking orders worth US $ 1 billion every month since the site went live from 30 countries. The company has targeted business worth $ 15 billion in the next 12 months.
Kumar who expected a good response from India said that they awaited the passing of the act relating to cyberlaws to achieve growth in the overall computer market. He cited communication bandwidth as a major bottleneck since they required more bandwidth for customers to be able to download more information from the Net.
At the roadshow in Pune, the team met nearly 200 CEOs of various companies as part of its strategy to drive the growth of the Internet economy and become the leading supplier of building blocks for the Internet economy.
