Mother, 4 sons burnt alive in Cooch Behar

CALCUTTA, AUG 9: A mother and her four sons were burnt alive in a devastating fire at Matahbhanga in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district last night.

Fire brigade sources here said another member of the family Shovan Burman also suffered burn injuries and was rescued by locals before the arrival of firemen. He has been admitted to Mathabhanga Sadar Hospital.

The fire broke out at the Burmans' house a little before midnight. Firemen recovered the charred bodies of Nanibala Burman (45) and her four sons Prasenjit (12), Sujit (9), Tapan (5) and Chiranjit (2).

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, sources said.
