Bhutto presages Pak premier's exit by August

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has become a ``security risk'' after his Kargil misadventure, leader of the Opposition Benazir Bhutto has claimed, predicting August would be the last month of his rule and demanded formation of a National Government.

In a message to her Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Secretariat, Bhutto said her party would observe August 17 as the ``day of deliverance...the solar eclipse (of August 11) will also be the eclipse of the government headed by Sharif, the most incompetent Prime Minister in the history of Pakistan, which is fast moving towards anarchy.''

``Sharif has become a security risk after his Kargil misadventure and the Washington Declaration...and his government with a fake mandate will have to go and a National Government formed,'' she said.

Amidst indications that a ``grand alliance'' of almost the entire Opposition united over the Kargil debacle, was in the offing she hinted of her return to lead a protest movement against the Sharifgovernment, sources in PPP said.

The PPP supremo has not returned home following her conviction in a corruption case in April. All Opposition party leaders were scheduled to meet in Lahore on August 12 for a conference on the ``Washington Declaration and Betrayal of National Interests'' organised by veteran politician Nawabzada Asrullah Khan Chairman of multi-party alliance Pakistan Awami Ittehad (PAI).

It is part of the Opposition agenda to push the government into a corner by launching a coordinated campaign against it on the Kargil issue.

Political and religious parties like the PPP, Jamaat-E-Islami, Mohajir party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), both the factions of Jamiat Ulema-E-Pakistan (JUI), Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf of Imran Khan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) of Allama Tahirul Qadri and others were scheduled to participate.
