MUMBAI, AUG 9: Actress Mamta Kulkarni, who is the United States at present, may have to be extradited to India after she failed to appear before a Metropolitan Magistrate at Esplande Court this evening.Kulkarni was to depose in an obscenity case relating to the cover of a Stardust magazine issue in September 1993. According to Kulkarni's defence advocate Dharmendra Rohra, attempts to contact her have proved futile. Earlier, she had failed to turn up in court on July 27.
Coming down heavily on the defence advocate, Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate K H Holambe Patil pointed out that if the Public Prosecutor declared Kulkarni as a criminal, she would have to be extradited to India. Her passport could also be revoked, as a result of which she may never be able to travel abroad, Patil added.
Kulkarni's lawyer gave an undertaking that he would make all attempts to ensure that Kulkarni was present for the next hearing on August 24. Rohra told Express Newsline that he had sentregistered letters to Mamta's residence on August 5. He claimed that he was unaware of her address in the United States.
