Indian reply kills 15 Pak soldiers

JAMMU: At least 15 Pakistani soldiers were killed and five of their bunkers and a major ammunition depot destroyed in retaliatory firing by Indian troops in Poonch and Jammu sectors since last night, defence sources here said today. Indian troops replied with mortar shelling and rocket attacks after two days of `intermittent' shelling by Pakistan along the LoC in Chhamb, Krishna Gati and Bhimber Gali areas, the sources said.

Tytler absolved

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler today got a clean chit in the 1989 anti-Sikh riots case from a city court which accepted the CBI report saying there was no evidence of his involvement in the riots. ``There is no evidence brought out which could help in identifying any person who may have been member of the riotous mob...'' MagistrateR K Gauba said while approving of the closure reports.

Buta charged

NEW DELHI: A city court today framed charges against Congress leader and former Unionminister Buta Singh for `wilfully' not furnishing details of his alleged `hawala scam income' to income tax authorities despite summons being served on him.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today stayed proceedings before the Allahabad High Court till November five where a Uttar Pradesh MLC has sought stay on the operation of model code of conduct so as not to affect ministerial tours.

CPI man quits

HYDERABAD: Veteran CPI leader Rajeshwara Rao resigned from the party today. Rao, CPI floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, announced his decision to quit the party at his home constituency Sircilla.

Boat capsize

ALLAHABAD: At least eight people drowned and six others were missing after a boat carrying 36 passengers capsized on the Tonse river at Dharwara, about 20 km from here, today.
