Govind Solanki quits BJP
Rajkot: Former city mayor and senior leader Govind Solanki on Monday resigned from the BJP and also submitted his resignation as corporator from ward no. 14. BJP sources said Solanki was unhappy at the manner in which he was being treated in the party especially after he opposed the State Government's proposal to release more water from Bhadar dam. Solanki's outspoken nature seems to have ruffled feathers in the BJP. Solanki, however, refused to talk to the Press.Lepto deaths
Surat: Two more leptospirosis patients died in the New Civil Hospital and the Navsari Civil Hospital in the past 24 hours, even as seven patients were admitted to three hospitals in South Gujarat. With these casualties, the toll in the current bout of leptospirosis climbed to 10.
Another martyr
Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has paid homage to martyr Chandansinh Raisinh Baria who was killed recently while fighting insurgents in Kashmir Valley. A sepoy of 4 Rashtriya Rifles, Baria is the 12th martyr from the State to have gone down fighting militants in the Valley. Baria's body will be flown to Vadodara on August 10. The last rites will be performed at the martyr's native Nakti village in the Panchmahals district the same afternoon.
Akshardham
The entire Akshardham Complex at Gandhinagar, Sector 20, will remain closed on August 11 after 3 pm due to solar eclipse, according to a Swaninarayan Sanstha release.
BDS results
The results of the final BDS examination which were held on June 99 will be declared on Tuesday, a Gujarat University release has said.
Donation
Members of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association, Ahmedabad have said that they have contributed Rs 2,13,001 through Sankat Niravan Society, Gujarat for the relief of families of Kargil martyrs from Gujarat.
Relief fund
The officials and staff of a small construction unit working under Chief Project Manager, Western Railway, Ahmedabad have contributed Rs 3,60,000 towards the Prime Minister's National Defence Fund and National Relief Fund for the families of jawans killed or injured during the Kargil conflict.
Cheques cleared
The Ahmedabad Bankers' Clearing House conducted by the Reserve Bank of India has cleared 1,39,275 cheques worth Rs 14, 542 crore under Non-MICR clearing during the month of July this year. The amount includes 33,221 high value cheques of Rs 5860.42 crore. During the same period, Bank of Baroda cleared 32,30,213 cheques worth Rs 8521.27 crore under MICR clearing.
