Professor's son, three others in police custody

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, AUG 10: Parag Rane, son of Professor Pundalik Rane of the Vivesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), is among three students arrested on Monday by the Sitabuldi police in connection with the fake marklist-degree scam.

Parag, 21, is reported to have got his second year engineering marks inflated through one of the varsity officials, an accused in the marks scandal. Rane has been remanded to police custody.

Besides Rane, two more students from Gondia were also arrested Monday for their alleged involvement in the fake marklists scam. Police said Prasad Anna Anjanaiyya Prasad and Gopalsingh Shersingh Thakur, residents of Nagpur, had acted as brokers to provide fake marklists to four engineering students from local private engineering colleges.

Prasad and Gopalsingh were arrested by the Gondia police on Sunday and handed over to the Sitabuldi police Monday morning. Both have been remanded to police custody till August 16.
