Constable surrenders
Chandrakant Maganlal Kachela, a Makarpura police constable who was wanted in connection with his wife's suicide three weeks ago, surrendered before the J P Road police yesterday. According to the police, Kachela reportedly tortured his wife mentally and physically throughout their seven-year-long marriage. The woman had attempted suicide a year-and-a-half ago, but survived. On July 15, however, she set herself on fire after dousing her clothes with kerosene, and later died at the SSG Hospital. Kachela, who had been absconding ever since, surrendered on Monday, but was released immediately on production of his anticipatory bail certificate.

Counterfeit note
The Panigate police have registered a case of cheating in connection with one counterfeit currency note of Rs 100 denomination given by an unknown customer at the Sardar Petrol Pump on Monday night. According to a complaint lodged by Balchand Lakshmanji Khatri, one of the employees at the Pump accepted the note without properly checking it.

Housebreak
Cash and goods valued at Rs 10,000 were reportedly stolen from house no 11, Brahmanand Society, behind Ambalal Park in Karelibaug area last night. According to the Karelibaug police, thieves barged into the house by breaking the lock on the back door, broke open the cupboard, and stole the goods.

Vehicles stolen
Three vehicles were reportedly stolen from various places of the city during the last 24 hours. According to the police, a Kinetic Honda bearing registration number GJ 6 HH 1012 worth Rs 20,000 was stolen by unknown persons, probably using duplicate keys, from near Nyaya Mandir on Monday evening. A Yamaha motorcycle (GJ 6 M 6787) valued at Rs 15,000 was stolen from Fatehgunj area. Investigations are on.
