BJP names candidates
Ahmedabad:
The BJP on Tuesday announced candidates for the remaining three Lok Sabha seats. While the party is repeating two candidates in Chhota Udepur and Kheda, it has fielded a new face in Dahod. Ex-MP Ramsinh Rathwa will contest from Chhota Udepur, Prabhatsinh Chauhan from Kheda and Babubhai Katara from Dahod. Katara is president of the Dahod district BJP Adivasi Morcha and has been connected with the Sangh Parivar for years. Rathwa had lost in the last general elections against the Congress candidate. Chauhan too lost the last election against Congress' Dinsha Patel by a narrow margin.

Solanki volte-face
Rajkot:
In a total turnaround from his earlier stand, former Mayor Govind Solanki on Tuesday withdrew his resignation from the BJP after a hectic round of discussions with the party leadership. Solanki had announced his resignation on Monday from the BJP and had also said he would resign as a corporator. Tuesday's events have led many to believe that it was just a move to strengthen his position in the party.
