Jewellery, cash worth over Rs 4 lakh stolen

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Aug 10: In a major heist burglars struck at a jewellery shop in Khadki and decamped with cash and jewellery totalling to more than Rs 4 lakh in the early hours of Tuesday. Police are suspecting history-sheeter D D Singh's involvement in the case considering the method employed.

Shop owner Nitin Kesarimal Jain discovered the burglary in the morning when he saw the shutter of the shop twisted and broken. The locks had been cut through with a hacksaw. According to the complaint filed by Jain thieves made off with valuables totalling Rs 4,45,470 including Rs 47,870 in cash. A case of house break in and theft has been lodged with the Khadki police and they are conducting further investigations.According to senior police officials the nature of the theft showed a high degree of efficiency. The way the locks were cut and the shutter broken are in the mould of D D Singh's modus operandi.

Meanwhile police has sent out an alert and security has been tightened as the city has been hit by a spate of similar thefts.
