Addressing a press conference here, Yadav said it was an attack by Pakistan, not an infiltration. He said the crossing over of the LoC in the Kargil sector should not be called intrusion as the fact was it was a pre-planned attack by Pakistan. The Government should explain through whom and when did it get the information on the attack.

The former defence minister said if the information on the intrusion was received on May 4 then what was the Government doing till May 25. He said despite BJP's claims, Kargil and Kashmir have become international issues or else the US President would have not said that land on both sides of the LoC should be declared autonomous.

He demanded that the Centre make public the telephone talk between Vajpayee and US President Bill Clinton and the PM's letter to Clinton. Mulayam Singh questioned as to why werethe Pak soldiers allowed a safe passage overlooking the supreme sacrifices made by hundreds of Indian soldiers.

Asking why weren't the Indian troops allowed to enter Pakistan, the Samajwadi Party chief said giving safe passage was aimed at boosting the Prime Minister's image internationally.

Referring to the Arab countries giving financial aid to Pakistan after the Kargil episode, Mulayam Singh said it did not match with the BJP's claim of international support as these countries in the past had supported India's stand on Kashmir.

Former defence minister termed the Vajpayee Government as a ``national shame''. He said while the government was celebrating its ``handling of Kargil fiasco'' Indian soldiers were still being killed on the border. ``Our soldiers have won the battle but the Government has lost,'' he said .

Yadav also announced the candidature of Reoti Raman Singh from Allahabad and Harendra Malik from Kairana. So far the party had announced candidates for 40 seats from the state.
