Kopran, Synpac form JV

MUMBAI: Synpac Pharma of UK, a leading penicillin maker, is joining hands with Kopran Ltd to pick up a 50 per cent stake in the latter's recently hived off antibiotic division - Kopran Drugs Ltd. The shares of Kopran Drugs are to listed shortly.

The additional equity proposed to be issued to Synpac Pharma is equivalent to $ 1 million, says a statement issued by Kopran Ltd. Synpac Pharma belongs to the Koo family of Taiwan, with interests in banking, insurance, hotels, shipping, cement, tyres, pharma with a turnover of nearly $ 25 billion.

Synpac manufactures more than 4000 mmu of penicillin and has recently commenced manufacturing of 6-apa through a new technology in its brand new plant. Kopran Drugs would supply the enzyme for this new plant to Synpac. Kopran's Khopoli plant would be specialing in Amoxycillin - the market of which is growing at the rate of 7 to 8 per cent.

RIL among 100 best managed cos

MUMBAI: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has been named asone of the world's 100 best managed companies for the year 1999 by Industry Week (IW), a leading US-based magazine. Reliance is one of the two Indian companies to be included in the list of the "world's 100 best managed companies", a RIL release said here today. Apart from the multinational Hindustan Lever Ltd, RIL enjoys the distinction of being the only Indian company to figure in this prestigious ranking.

Govt allows CUG interconnectivity

NEW DELHI: The government has permitted inter connectivity among the closed users groups (CUG) to facilitate data transfer work in airlines, financial sector. CUGs would have to obtain licence from telecom commission for data networking, an official release said here today. CUGs would now be able to communicate smoothly among themselves for data purposes, it added.
