MUMBAI, August 12: The Bombay High Court has suggested that actress Amrita Singh and journalist Kannan Divecha arrive at an out-of-court settlement over their dispute pertaining to an assault case. The suggestion was made by Justice S S Parkar today, on a petition filed by Divecha urging that the police register a case against Singh, her actor-husband Saif Ali Khan and secretary Bhupendra, who allegedly barged into the Star And Style office in April 1994 and assaulted her.
The trio were infuriated over an article written by Divecha in 1993 on a liaison Amrita allegedly had with Amitabh Bachchan.
Divecha and Singh have been asked to settle their dispute by tomorrow and present the terms of their terms before the court.
On August 3, Singh had tendered an unconditional apology to Singh before the court. However, she withdrew it a day after as the columnist refused to pardon her. Divecha had filed her petition five years ago.
Singh, tendering a written apology, had submitted that enough water hadflowed under the bridge since the last four years and that she was now mature enough to realise and accept her mistake.
Sirish Gupte, Singh's counsel, and Amina Naqvi, Divecha's lawyer, told the court today that their clients were ready to compromise.
