Two more Maratha aides arrested

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Aug 12: Two More aides of Chhota Rajan gangster Dilip Maratha, namely Ashok Nanji Waghani and Atul Gordhan Patel alias Rajesh alias Rahul Khanna, were re-arrested by the Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) on Thursday under provisions of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act and sent to jail. Their arrest takes to five the number of Maratha aides jailed under the act.

While Waghani, a resident of 90, Anuradha Society, Varachha Road, has been despatched to the district jail, Jamnagar, Patel of Divyajyot Apartments, Adajan Patia has been sent to Junagadh jail. Both were arrested after being declared ``dangerous persons.''

Both Waghani and Patel had been arrested by the Athwalines police earlier in connection with an extortion and land-grabbing case after a complaint was filed by city-based builder Tarun Rawal in the police station. Both were on police remand until Thursday. Three others accused in the case, namely Dilip Supariwala, Nari Sawlani and Ishwar Raja, have already been booked under PASA by the city police.

A PCB release issued here this evening said that it had been established that the builders had used their underworld contacts and were actively involved with Maratha for the past few years.

Meanwhile, sources in the police department stated that one more case -- the fifth against Maratha and his associates -- was being prepared by the DCB, which is investigating into builder-underworld links.

Although the police have not officially registered a case, sources stated that Dilip Maratha and O P Singh -- both Chhota Rajan aides -- and ten others were named in a complaint by a leading share-broker of the city in his complaint.
